♥ Personification ♥

DEFINITION:

A figure of speech in which things or abstract ideas are given human characteristics.

EXAMPLE:

Dinnertime Chorus
The teapot sang as the water boiled
The ice cubes cackled in their glass
the teacups chattered to one another.
While the chairs were passing gas
The gravy gurgled merrily
As the oil danced in a pan.
Oh my dinnertime chorus
What a lovely, lovely clan!

SIGNIFICANCE:

Normally it’s easier for us to relate to something with human attributes, and that’s the reason why poets use personification to make poems more dramatic and interesting in order to convey a certain mood/point of view.
