DEFINITION:
A figure of speech in which two things are compared without using the words “like” or “as”.
EXAMPLE:
On the wall,
there is a shadow
of a branch outside.
It moves and it is dancing.
It writes its story
and the ink
is living light.
SIGNIFICANCE:
Metaphors are used in poetry to explain/express emotions, feelings, relationships and other elements that cannot be described in ordinary language. Metaphors also make it more effective to explain or refer to something in a brief way.
