♥ Elegy ♥


DEFINITION:

A poem for someone who has died.

EXAMPLE:

Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard

Thomas Gray
The curfew tolls the knell of parting day,
The lowing herd winds slowly o'er the lea,
The ploughman homeward plods his weary way,
And leaves the world to darkness and to me.


SIGNIFICANCE:

Elegy shows the sorrowful emotions of the poet for one who has died. With the use of many elements of poetry, elegy is made in the purpose of lament, commemoration, and love.
